About Punto de Luz
A small beginning - growing step by step, with care and community.
What Punto de Luz is
Punto de Luz is a small but growing community-based initiative in Puerto Morelos, Quitana Roo, Mexico.
Its heart is simple: creating safe and supportive spaces where women can feel seen, heard and respected -
and where they don’t have to carry everything alone.
The work begins not with programs, but with listening. Punto de Luz moves slowly, building relationships, understanding local realities and collaborating with people and organizations that are already present. Instead of quick fixes, it focuses on small, sustainable steps that strengthen dignity, stability and connection.
Punto de Luz is currently in the process of being formally established. As it grows, it aims to become a place where women can share knowledge, support one another, and find pathways forward together -
a living sisterhood rooted in care and community.
How we work
1
Listening first
We begin by listening deeply, inviting stories before making plans. Understanding context reveals needs, honors experience, and keeps our next steps grounded for stronger relationships and more responsible choices ahead.
2
Relationships before programs
We invest in relationships before designing programs, taking time to build trust. Shared connection clarifies priorities, sets healthy expectations, and helps communities lead solutions that truly last over the years.
3
Small, sustainable steps
We choose small, sustainable steps, testing ideas before expanding them widely. Moving at a human pace protects energy, reduces risk, and allows learning to shape thoughtful, practical growth that communities can maintain over time.
4
With, not over
We work with communities, not over them, inviting shared leadership from the start. Partnership respects lived knowledge, distributes responsibility fairly, and creates solutions rooted in local reality that people trust.
5
Transparency
We remain transparent about our process and decisions, sharing progress openly. Clear communication builds trust, invites honest feedback, and helps everyone see limits, possibilities, and reasons behind each step together.
“A safe space is somewhere you don’t have to carry everything alone.”
A safe space means dignity, stability and belonging -
a place where women can talk, learn, rest and plan next steps without fear or judgement.
Our long-term path
We only move to the next phase when the foundations are ready.
We choose careful progress over quick promises

Community & Sisterhood
We start by listening and creating small, safe circles where women can meet, talk and support one another. These gatherings build trust and become the foundation for everything that follows.

Social Enterprise
Over time, we plan to build a community-based eco-hotel that provides meaningful jobs for women. Its income helps sustain the work and reduces dependency on donations.

Women’s Cooperatives
Together with local women, we develop small cooperatives that create shared income and practical skills. They strengthen independence while staying rooted in community support.

Safehouse
When stable structures are in place, we work toward establishing a safehouse for women in crisis. It offers protection, confidentiality and support with local professionals.
Who is behind Punto de Luz
Punto de Luz was initiated by Jessi.
Her role is not to lead or to define solutions, but to listen, connect, and learn alongside women and local communities. She does not approach this work as a rescuer or an expert, but as someone who believes in relationships, mutual support, and long-term presence. The motivation behind Punto de Luz is shaped by personal experience and the recognition that many existing approaches focus on intervention rather than self-efficacy. Too often, women are offered solutions instead of space, and programs instead of community. Having experienced support herself during difficult times, Jessi carries a strong sense of responsibility to give something back - not by directing, but by creating conditions where women can connect, strengthen one another, and access existing resources together. Puerto Morelos became the place for Punto de Luz almost by chance. Through meaningful encounters with local people, a strong sense of community emerged — one that felt like a natural foundation for a project rooted in trust and collaboration. Punto de Luz is currently in an early stage. The focus lies on building relationships, listening, and establishing a foundation of trust before any concrete initiatives take shape. As a guiding belief, this work is grounded in a simple conviction: I believe in community more than in programs.
